Print/Film Media
Textual Analysis/Codal analysis- is a systematic methodology for analysing moving image and print media text.
Technical codes- all to do with the way a text is technically constructed- camera angles, framing, typography etc.
Verbal codes- everything to do with language-either written or spoken
Symbolic codes- codes that can be decoded on a mainly connotation level.
Bleed Line: Bleed is a printing term that is used to describe a document which has images or elements that touch the edge of the page, extending beyond the trim edge and leaving no white margin.
Strapline: a subsidiary heading or caption in a newspaper or magazine.
Left Third: The left third of the magazine cover is vital for sales in shops where the magazine is not shown full-frontage - as on these crammed shelves at a Zurich airport newsagent. The title must stand out among dozens of competitors. The start of the masthead is important here, as are short cover lines that are easy to read
Right Third: Opposite to the left third
Masthead: The title of the magazine
